Deploying the emergency distress signal in Dead Space is one of the most memorable objectives during Chapter 7, Into the Void. Isaac Clarke must navigate through hazardous mining bays and zero-gravity sectors to call for rescue. Successfully planting and launching this device requires careful timing, precise movement, and strategic resource management.

Locating the SOS Beacon in the Mining Deck

Before you can deploy the beacon, you need to acquire it from the Equipment Workshop located within the Mining Deck. Escorting Nicole through the maintenance room leads directly to the workshop area. Inside, the physical SOS Beacon is resting on a workbench alongside essential upgrade schematics.

Destroying the Gravity Tethers

To safely launch the transmitter into deep space, Isaac must sever four gravity tethers anchoring the giant asteroid inside the ship. Two of these devices are situated inside the bay, while two remain on the outer hull exposed to vacuum. Players need to apply Stasis to the spinning mechanisms and destroy the glowing energy fuses inside.

Navigating the Asteroid and Planting the Beacon

Once all four gravity tethers are disabled, you must maneuver around the rotating clamp arms to reach the exterior surface of the asteroid. Identify the glowing outline on the rock where the beacon needs to be installed. Interacting with this location attaches the device securely to the asteroid's surface.

Launching the Asteroid into Space

With the beacon in place, return to the Mining Control Room to trigger the final launch sequence. Activating the console releases the asteroid, sending it and the transmitter into orbit. Be ready for immediate combat as dangerous Necromorph threats ambush the room shortly after launch.
