Tracking down Legendary Pokémon in Hisui requires patience and specific weather conditions to succeed. Thundurus, one of the Forces of Nature, only reveals itself under very particular circumstances in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Understanding where to look and how to prepare will save trainers significant time and effort during the post-game questline.
Unlocking Request 94 and Preparing for the Hunt
Before Thundurus can spawn, players must first complete the main story campaign and initiate Cogita's post-game questline. Cogita will assign Request 94, titled Incarnate Forces of Hisui, which tasks players with capturing all four legendary genies. Having high-tier Poké Balls such as Ultra Balls, Feather Balls, and Smoke Bombs in your inventory is essential for a smooth capture process.
Equipping reliable water-traversal mounts like Basculegion is crucial since the encounter takes place completely in open water. Additionally, bringing Pokémon capable of inflicting status conditions like Paralyze or Sleep will help increase your capture success once battle initiates. Proper preparation ensures you will not waste valuable items while dodging aggressive attacks in the wild.
Finding Thundurus Location in Cobalt Coastlands
Thundurus resides exclusively in the Cobalt Coastlands region, specifically patrolling the waters near Coastland Campsite around the two giant pillars known as Lunker's Lair. However, the legendary Pokémon will not appear under clear or rainy weather. You must rest at a camp until a heavy thunderstorm hits the area.
Check the map icon to confirm a thunderstorm is actively raging before setting out on Basculegion. If the weather is incorrect, simply sleep until the next morning or night until the storm conditions trigger. Once the storm arrives, ride out between the giant horn-like rock formations to spot Thundurus floating above the water.
Strategy for Breaking Thundurus Shield and Catching It
Approaching Thundurus requires quick reflexes because it surrounds itself with a protective wind barrier and hurls thunderbolts at approaching trainers. Throwing items like Mud Balls, Sticky Globes, or Spoiled Acorns at Thundurus will stun it and break its barrier. You will likely need to strike it multiple times with stun items before its defensive shield shatters completely.
Once the shield drops, immediately throw a partner Pokémon at Thundurus to initiate turn-based combat. Lower its health carefully using Ground-type or Ice-type moves while avoiding an unexpected knockout. Apply status effects and deploy Ultra Balls until the legendary wild Pokémon is safely captured for your Pokédex record.
